Title Comparative analysis of the kinesic behaviour in the Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, according to the thematic discourse (political year 2006-2007) Summary Nonverbal communication is a discipline which recently has acquired a strategic importance in the political leaders’ actions. This occurs especially when facing the television cameras, a medium which power of persuasion on potential voters is undoubtedly important. The political leader knows that, in order to change the audience’s mind, he must display a pristine discourse technique based on an adequate staging in which non-verbal language (especially gestures) will be crucial in achieving success and communication effectiveness. This research paper analyzes kinesic behaviour in the Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, during the 2006-2007 political season by setting a comparison regarding the theme of his speech. To do so, a personal working method has been used. This method relies on emptying the contents of this character's appearances in the news of the second edition of the newscast on Spanish National TV (TVE). Keywords Nonverbal communication, political leader, television, politics, Zapatero
